The third online District 64 Information Session / Open House was held on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Guests were warmly welcomed by Past District 64 Director Laverne Wojciechowski, Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), as well as District 64 Club Growth Director David Storey, DTM and two additional seasoned toastmasters.
The Information Session began with an overview presentation by Laverne Wojciechowski, DTM focused on how Toastmasters International and District 64 are helping club members develop as leaders, gaining confidence in both speaking skills and leadership skills. Laverne noted that often members join to improve speaking skills but stay when they realize leadership opportunities exist within the club and beyond.
The World Championship of Public Speaking is held every year. As part of the journey to the final contest over 16,000 clubs participate in speech contests the world over. The winners from Club level continue to compete upward through Area, Division, District and Region to compete at the semi-finals at the Toastmasters International Convention in August. There were 28 semi-finalists this year. Once again due to COVID restrictions the competitions were held virtually via the internet.
The final contest was held on Saturday August 28, 2021 and the results are in!
1st place – Verity Price from District 74 (South Africa). Here is a link to her winning speech on YouTube! Her speech was titled “A Great Read.”
2nd place – Nitay-Yair Levi from District 70 (Sydney and Southern NSW, Australia) with his speech “Advice For Life.”
3rd place – Roger Caesar from District 86 (SW and Central Ontario) with his speech, “Is It in You?”

District 64 successfully launched the first Open House Information Session on Sunday, July 25, 2021 hosted by Past District Director Laverne Wojciechkowski, DTM. Laverne kicked off the evening with an overview of Toastmasters International and District 64. The Agenda included a special presentation about the Pathways Educational Program by Club Growth Director David Storey, DTM and a presentation by a member of the District 64 PR Team Liz Jonasson, DTM, about why Table Topics is a powerful tool for growth of communication and leadership skills. The evening ended with a Q and A followed by a Call to Action featuring Laverne explaining How to Join a Club!
