Live Via Skype – The Anatomy of a Keynote with Accredited Speaker Bob Hooey

Just a reminder, our next meeting is Monday night, Oct 26 @ 6 pm!

Get involved in the Toastmasters Accredited Speaker program (https://www.toastmasters.org/Resources/Contests/Accredited-Speaker). Learn how to earn a professional speaking designation, he only one offered by Toastmasters. Only 67 people of over 300,000 Toastmasters world wide have earned this prestigious designation.

How? By joining Keystone Speakers (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1571088479808368/?ref=bookmarks), the only Toastmasters club in District 64 focused on developing the professional skills necessary to successfully apply for the Accredited Speaker designation and succeed as a professional speaker. There is no manual. We will be helped by top level professionals.

Our second meeting is tomorrow Monday October 26 at the Millennium Library Downtown Branch from 6:00-9:00PM. Bring your check book. Its time to make a commitment.
Normally our educational session is open to members only. Tomorrow everyone is welcome! The focus is on keynote speeches. We will have a special guest speaker via Skype. Accredited Speaker and club sponsor, Bob Hooey will present, “The Anatomy of a Keynote”. In this one hour session we will learn how to structure a keynote that will captivate our audiences and make the accredited speaker judges say “YES!”

This club will take you to a new speaking level!

Not sure if this is for you? Come out and check us out.

Who won the Voyageur Club Contest?  When are the Division Contests scheduled?  I need a contest script; where can I find one?

The answers to these questions can be found on the District 64 Website Speech Contest portal (http://www.district64.ca/index.php/events/speech-contests).   There is also a Google Docs based contest tracker where you can update the location, cost, date and time for your Club, Area and Division Contests.

Good luck to all the Humorous and Evaluation Contest contestants this round!

Rap It Up! We’re All About The Growth!

If you were at the District meeting on Saturday, October 3, you were witness to my first rap performance. I explored my potential as a rapper. Drake and K-os don’t have anything to worry about.

If you want to try your hand at motivating your fellow members to get out there and find new members (or you just want a taste of the fun), here are the words to my Club Growth rap.  It’s a parody of Meghan Trainor’s song, All About That Bass. Before you try to perform it, I suggest you listen and sing along – lots!

Chorus:

We’re all about that growth, ‘bout that growth, no shrinking!

We’re all about that growth, ‘bout that growth, no shrinking!

We’re all about that growth, ‘bout that growth, no shrinking!

We’re all about that growth, ‘bout that growth!

Yeah its pretty clear; you can’t run with too few

Let’s find new members, members like we’re supposed to do

We’ve got those great skills that employers embrace

All the right clubs in all the right places

If leadership skills are your end and all

We know our Toastmasters is the right call

If you’ve been searching, searching, just look us up!

And we’ll work on speaking skills from the bottom to the top

Yeah, a member she told me, don’t worry about our size!

When it comes to Toastmasters, that message is nothing but lies!

You know, Charter strength (20) or increase your members by five

For it’s not enough to keep a club barely alive.

Chorus: say it with me!

If you are a true sucker for punishment, there’s a little more but I spared our District leaders at the meeting.

I hope to see you all next time, November 21 at the semi-annual meeting.  A better reason to come is to find out what’s happening, how you can benefit and best of all, to hear Mike Storkey, TI’s President Elect deliver a keynote (free for all members of District 64).

Remember: growth is good.

Toastmasters District 64 will be offering the Show & Save Card and Coupon Books to all clubs within District 64 on a consignment basis. Each club can sign out 5 or more books to sell at the Fall Rally – In fact, to speed up the process, you can reserve your package by emailing me at cyounger@rrc.ca and I will have it ready for you to pick up on Saturday, September 13 at the Fall Rally. Each club that sells five books will be entered to win a prize!
