District 64 Council Meeting September 2018

Sept 22, 2018 – 9 am (please arrive at 8:00 am to sign into credentials.)
Viscount Gort Hotel, 1670 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, 2nd floor.

The District Council is comprised of the President and Vice-President Education of each club and the District Executive Committee. Presidents and VPEs need to attend this meeting in order to vote as proxies are not available per Toastmasters International rules. Voting will be done electronically.

If you are a President or VPE from out of town, plan to attend via Zoom on your computer. Proxies are no longer allowed by Toastmasters International and we require a quorum, so your virtual attendance is very important.

Details for both Zoom and electronic voting will be sent by September 7, 2018 along with the agenda and supporting documents.

Note: For the purposes of voting, a club in good standing is a chartered club with a minimum of eight paid members as of the time credentials opens on the meeting dateThere is no grace period.

District 64 Council Meeting at 9AM


Education session, 11:15 am: “Be a Coach / Be Distinguished” presented by Brenda Smith and Rolande Kirouac

Last year, Brenda and Rolande partnered up to take Comedy Club Eh! to the next level. It worked! The club went all the way to President’s Distinguished. In this workshop they will share a few valuable tips and resources that they used in order to create success.

Upcoming Club Officer Training Dates and Locations (September 2018)

The next officer training event takes place on Saturday September 8 in at the Fall Rally in St. Andrews. Training is free as always, but attendance at the Fall Rally requires registration payment. See the Fall Rally page for more information.

Please ensure your club executives are aware of the following details regarding biannual club officer training:

  • Clubs must have their officers trained twice per year
  • Club Officer lists due at Toastmasters.org by June 30 annually
  • First training sessions take place between June 1 and August 31 annually
  • Second training sessions take place between December 1 and February 28 annually

Clubs with officers attending training receive credit toward the training goal in the Distinguished Club Program. In order for clubs to receive credit, the District’s Program Quality Director must record the names of officers trained.

  • All first round training that qualifies for Distinguished Club Program credit will be completed by August 31 annually.
  • All mid-year training that qualifies for Distinguished Club Program credit will be completed by February 28 annually.

Nominations Open for 2017-2018 District 64 Leadership Awards

Any two Toastmasters ‘in good standing’ may submit a nomination for the District 64 Leadership Awards which recognize contributions and achievements completed during the current Toastmasters year (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018).  The nominee must meet the expectations of one of the following awards, as outlined in the nomination form – available on the District 64 website. http://district64.ca/

Nomination deadline for the following four awards is June 30, 2018.

The Toastmaster of the Year award recognizes a Toastmaster for outstanding contributions to their club and to the District and also for participating in the educational programs of Toastmasters.

The Division Director of the Year award recognizes outstanding performance as Division Director.

The Area Director of the YearUrban award recognizes outstanding performance as Area Director for clubs which are mainly in or near Winnipeg.

The Area Director of the Year – Rural award recognizes outstanding performance as Area Director for clubs which are mainly in communities further from Winnipeg.

Remember: Two nominators are required for each nomination.
