Show and Save Books – A Steal of a Deal!

Toastmasters District 64 will be offering the Show & Save Card and Coupon Books to all clubs within District 64 on a consignment basis. Each club can sign out 5 or more books to sell at the Fall Rally – In fact, to speed up the process, you can reserve your package by emailing me at cyounger@rrc.ca and I will have it ready for you to pick up on Saturday, September 13 at the Fall Rally. Each club that sells five books will be entered to win a prize!

Using one grocery coupon can save you the $20 cost of the book. That means you recover your investment with one or two uses. You can also experience endless savings with the Re-usable Card and Coupon Book. The Coupon Book has over $10,000 in money saving offers including coupons for purchases at numerous grocery stores, restaurants and businesses throughout the city.

By purchasing your Show & Save from a member of District 64, you will be supporting the activities of Toastmasters District 64 while saving your family money!

Toastmasters International Convention – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Toastmasters International Convention 2014 in Kuala Lumpur provided a wealth of presenters, ideas and opportunities to meet people from 126 countries.  This is indeed a world class organization!  Everyone seems to take away something special from every convention.

What did I take away?  ‘The goal to have the Toastmasters brand recognizable globally, to be the first organization that comes to mind when mentioning communication and leadership and building clubs that provide quality programming that enhances the Toastmasters mission!’  These goals hit close to home – every club, including my small club, has a responsibility to be that club that meets goals set out in the Distinguished Club Plan and builds itself to be a world class leader in communication and leaders.

How do we know when we meet expectations?  By measuring club achievements!  There are 10 points in the DCP – can you list them?  You can travel half away around the world and find Toastmasters able to rhyme off the goals of success – 2 CC’s, 2 more CC’s, 1 AC, 1 more AC, 1 CL/AL/DTM, 1 more CL/AL/DTM, 4 new members, 4 more new members, min. 4 Club Officers trained in both sessions and on-time submissions of club dues and officer lists!  I heard there was a song about this! Stay tuned!

Are you Connected?

This year, there are more and more ways to get connected with District 64 and stay up to date on all the latest news!

Your launchpad for your Toastmasters online experience is our new website at http://www.district64.ca.  Here, you’ll find information on District events, contests, and (important) a page explaining how to join Toastmasters.  If you have a friend or colleague that’s wondering how to get involved, send them to http://www.district64.ca/index.php/join-us  – on this page, they will find out how to search for a club, and even how to get a club started at their work.

From the District 64 website, you’ll also be able to see our Public Facebook feed (http://facebook.com/toastmastersmb) and Twitter feed (@D64TM).   Follow us, and ask one other person to follow us!  It’s that simple.

We will also be having blog posts from the District leadership over the course of the year to inspire you and inform you on how to get the most out of your Toastmasters experience.  The blog link is https://district64.wordpress.com.  If you’d like to submit a blog post, email your (max) 300 word article to connect@district64.ca.

We also have a Facebook discussion group for sharing news between members.  Search for “District 64 Toastmasters” on Facebook, and send a request to join the group.

See you online!

Be a Star … Start

It is an honour to be greeting you as District Governor 2014-2015. It is truly a dream come true and I know we will have a great year filled with excitement, accomplishments and “Stars”. I am delighted that Sylvia Nilsson-Barkman, Lt. Gov. Education and Training and Stan Penner, Lt. Gov. Marketing are willing to share their expertise on the District Trio.

My recognition theme is year is “Be a Star…. Start”. This relates to goals you can set (and accomplish) . If you would put your goal up on Facebook or Twitter (see our links below), then you could share your progress and we can cheer you on as you proceed toward your goal. Once you are completed, you will get your District 64 pin.

You might have noticed we have an enhanced Social media presence with Facebook and Twitter thanks to Kurt Penner (connect@district64.ca). The District social media accounts are on Facebook and on Twitter – and remember to use the hashtag #d64star when you post your goals for the year on Twitter. The revamped District website is at www.district64.ca.

See you online!

It’s a new year for District 64!

It’s a new year for District 64!

What a year it is going to be!  I always like to look at each new year through the eyes of someone new to Toastmasters.  It just puts me on edge and makes me dream!  Dream about what I will sound like in a few months, how much confidence will grow when communicating with others and who I will meet along the way.  Some of my best friends have been made at Toastmasters.  Friends worth having who have the same values of being committed, having purpose and letting fun and laughter soften the way.  It will be a new year indeed!
